About The Archivist

The Archivist is a free dark idle game playable entirely in your browser — no download, no account, no cost. You are a scholar recovering forbidden fragments from a cursed archive that stretches deeper than any map has ever reached. Click to gather knowledge, summon scholars who work while you are away, and descend into the dark to begin again — stronger each time.

Features

Eight scholars to summon, each more unsettling than the last — from the Quill Scribe who copies fragments endlessly, to the Hollow Archivist who has become part of the archive itself. A prestige system with fifteen descent levels, each resetting your progress but compounding your power. AI-generated lore fragments that surface at milestones and after each descent, written uniquely for your run. Two boss encounters — the Hollow King, who must be driven back through sheer force, and the Pale Librarian, who demands only stillness. A New Game+ mode that changes the archive's character entirely.

The Archive

The archive has no beginning that anyone remembers. It predates the scholars who tend it, the language in which its pages are written, and the hands that first opened its covers. What it contains is not knowledge in any ordinary sense — it is something older, something that accumulates rather than grows, that remembers rather than learns. Those who descend into it do not always return as themselves.

The Archivist is free to play, runs entirely in your browser, and saves your progress locally. No account is required. The archive will be here when you return.
